As workers with pride and dignity in who we are, we believe that class is a relationship, not a defined socioeconomic status. The "working class" performs the vast majority of economic activity and includes everybody who makes ends meet by selling labor to an employer for a wage or salary. If you earn millions of dollars manipulating the stock market, or you sit on the board of a big corporation, you’re not working class. But if you’re a doctor in a large healthcare system, you’re just as “working class” as the medical assistants, technicians, and janitors who work beside you. Due to capitalist imperatives of profit maximization and capital accumulation, the relationship between owners and workers is exploitative, alienating, and dehumanizing. By organizing unions and building a cooperative commonwealth, workers can overcome our oppression and inaugurate an era of democratic renaissance.
